Imām Shams al-Dīn Kirmānī was a distinguished Islamic scholar of the seventh century. Renowned as an interpreter, Muḥaddith, jurist, historian, and a man held in high esteem by his contemporaries, his contributions to the Muslim Ummah are both comprehensive and invaluable. Imām Kirmānī’s expertise in Islamic sciences is evident in his remarkable works. His most notable contribution is Kawkab al-Darārī, the first commentary (Sharḥ) on Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī. Beyond this, he made significant contributions to ʿUṣūl al-Tafsīr and exhibited a profound analytical approach in his examination of Sharḥ al-Kashshāf. His scholarly mastery extended further to Sharḥ al-Fawāʾid al-Ghaythiyya, where he demonstrated a deep understanding of ʿIlm al-Maʿānī (The Science of Meanings) and ʿIlm al-Bayān (The Science of Eloquence), two foundational branches of Arabic rhetoric (ʿIlm al-Balāgha). His deep understanding of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) is evident in his Risālah fī Masʾalat al-Kuḥāl. This research not only provides a comprehensive analysis of the life and prominent scholarly contributions of Imām Kirmānī but also seeks to shed light on the contributions of a scholar of his time whose works have not been thoroughly explored before, thereby underscoring his unique and enduring legacy.
