The Holy Qur’an is the primary source of guidance, legislation, and moral instruction for Muslims, encompassing beliefs, legal rulings, ethics, and universal principles of wisdom. Due to its linguistic depth, rhetorical excellence, and multilayered meanings, understanding the Qur’anic message requires systematic interpretation through the discipline of Tafsir (Qur’anic exegesis). Over the centuries, Muslim scholars have contributed significantly to this field, producing diverse exegetical works that reflect their scholarly backgrounds, methodological approaches, and intellectual environments. In the modern era, Qur’anic interpretation has witnessed renewed scholarly efforts aimed at presenting the Qur’an in a manner that combines classical authenticity with contemporary relevance. Among the most influential contemporary exegetical works are Safwat al-Tafasir by Imam Muhammad Ali al-Sabuni and Tafsir al-Munir by Dr. Wahbah al-Zuhaili. Both works have gained wide acceptance in academic institutions, religious seminaries, and among general readers due to their clarity, scholarly rigor, and methodological balance. Despite sharing a common objective—facilitating a correct understanding of the Qur’an—the two tafsirs differ in style, scope, and scholarly orientation. This study aims to present a comparative analytical examination of these two works, focusing specifically on their stylistic features, scholarly characteristics, and interpretative methodologies. This comparative study contributes to a deeper understanding of modern tafsir methodologies and underscores the continuing relevance of Qur’anic exegesis in shaping Islamic thought in the contemporary world.
